Brothers CMM
We are a religious community that was founded in 1844, with more than 300 of us active in ten different countries. We work there in varied areas, such as education, youth work, social care and building up the Church. Below follow some short fragments from the Rule of Life of the Brothers CMM, indicating the spirit from which we live and work.
Our mission
We see it as our task
to work courageously together with others
towards a better future.
Our congregation tries to contribute
towards making the world a better place to live in
and to bring more humaneness into society.
Merciful love
Above all our being in the world
should be characterised by merciful love.
In our care for others
our preference goes out
to those who are poor
and those who are needy.
At each encounter we apply ourselves
to direct our attention to the good
that God has put into the other.
God comes to meet us
in the encounter with others
Evangelical brotherhood
We live out our vocation as a brother
and fulfil our mission
in and through the concrete situation
of our communities.
Our evangelical life
our service to the Church,
our contribution to the happiness
of the large community of mankind,
stem from and have as starting-point
the community in which we live.
We accept this community
as a gift from God.
He gathers us together
to follow the path of evangelical brotherhood.
Jesus Christ came to break down the barriers
which keep people separated from each other.
We live this reality
in a group of brothers,
in which differences of descent, nationality,
taste, character, work, and social status
may not cause any division.
By living in this way we proclaim
that we have become brothers of one another
in Christ.
