A Heart-warming Visit
“Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone.”
Psalm 71:9“Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone.”
Psalm 71:9On the 14th of June, the Ambassadors of the Worldwide Brotherhood in Zambia carried out a noble outreach mission aimed at supporting and uplifting the elderly.
This initiative was more than a charitable gesture; it was a powerful demonstration of brotherhood in action. The outreach was spearheaded by Brother Prosper Chungu and Brother Michael Kabwe, who were accompanied by a dedicated team of seven young ambassadors. Together, they visited five homes of elderly individuals in their local community. They distributed essential supplies but also brought a meaningful emotional and spiritual connection.
The core objective of this outreach mission was to extend compassion, care, and solidarity to elderly individuals—members of society who are frequently overlooked, isolated, or neglected. In an age where materialism and fast-paced lifestyles dominate, this initiative aimed to remind the community of the immense value that older people still hold.
By engaging directly with the elderly, the ambassadors hoped to bridge the generational divide, reaffirm the dignity of the aged, and honour the wisdom that only time and experience can bring. The visit sought to restore joy, inspire hope, and reinforce a sense of belonging among the elderly.
Below is a breakdown of the key activities that took place during each visit:
Opening in Prayer
Each home visit began with a heartfelt prayer, a spiritual invitation for God’s presence, protection, and blessings. The prayer served as a reminder that all acts of love and kindness are rooted in faith and divine guidance.
Warm Interaction and Fellowship
Following the prayer, the ambassadors took time to engage in genuine conversations with the elderly residents. These interactions were filled with laughter, storytelling, and mutual appreciation. The fellowship created a warm, family-like atmosphere, offering emotional comfort to those who often spend long hours alone.
Words of Encouragement
Encouraging words were shared with the elderly, reminding them of their significance in the community. The ambassadors emphasized that they are neither forgotten nor abandoned and that their presence continues to enrich society. These words, though simple, had a profound emotional impact.
Listening to Wisdom
In return, the ambassadors humbly listened as the elderly shared their life experiences, stories of resilience, and reflections on the past. These moments were both touching and enlightening. The wisdom imparted served as a guiding light to the younger generation and deepened their respect for those who paved the way before them.
Distribution of Gifts
The team distributed food items, hygiene products like soap, and other essential household goods. Although the items were modest, the gesture carried deep emotional weight. The joy and gratitude expressed by the elderly proved that the act of giving, when done with love, is immensely powerful.
Closing in Prayer
To conclude each visit, the team gathered once more in prayer—offering thanks to God for the opportunity to serve, and asking for continued protection and peace for the elderly individuals and their homes. These final prayers brought a sense of spiritual closure and peace to the visits.
The response from the elderly was overwhelmingly emotional and heartfelt. Many were visibly moved—some with tears of joy, others with expressions of deep gratitude. For several of them, it had been months or even years since anyone had visited or spoken with them at such length. The simple presence of the ambassadors rekindled a sense of belonging and reminded them that they are still loved, seen, and valued.
One elderly woman remarked, “I thought the world had forgotten me. Today, I feel alive again.”
For the ambassadors, the experience left a lasting impression. It was a moment of spiritual growth and personal transformation. They expressed a renewed sense of purpose, a deep appreciation for the elders, and a commitment to continue serving those in need.
As one ambassador shared, “This experience opened my heart. I have learned that service is not about what we give materially, but the love and presence we bring.”
The visit highlighted an essential truth: that the highest form of service is to uplift those who can no longer lift themselves to be a voice for the voiceless and a companion to the lonely.
The outreach conducted by the Ambassadors of the Worldwide Brotherhood – Zambia on June 14, 2025, stands as a profound example of love in action. Through acts of prayer, conversation, generosity, and mutual respect, they brought light and warmth into the lives of the elderly they visited.
This effort serves as a powerful reminder to every community: our elders are treasures, not burdens. They deserve to be honoured, celebrated, and embraced with open arms. As we strive to build more compassionate and unified societies, let us remember the hands that built the world we now enjoy.
May this initiative inspire more young people to rise with compassion in their hearts and extend their hands in service to uplift the weary, listen to the forgotten, and walk with the broken. In doing so, we not only honour others but also enrich our own humanity.
