Tilburg – on Sunday, April 19, 2020, Brother Harrie van Geene (Den Bosch, February 9, 1940) has passed away. From 1990 until 2002 he was Superior General of the Congregation of the Brothers of Our Lady Mother of Mercy (Brothers CMM).
Brother Harrie joined the Brothers CMM on August 29, 1957. He became a teacher and taught at various schools. In the meantime he continued to study with great dedication and became especially proficient in Bible Exegesis. During his time as superior general, Brother Harrie made many working visits to his fellow-brothers around the world, and that international orientation remained. This was expressed, among other things, in his involvement in CMC, ‘People with a Mission’, a Dutch organization for mission and development work. He supervised various congregations in management tasks and at chapters. After his CMM board period, the number of additional functions grew, especially in the field of spirituality. For years he was a board member of the Titus Brandsma Institute in Nijmegen. In 2005 Brother Harrie moved to the community in the residential care facility Joannes Zwijsen and became community superior. He was very involved with his fellow-brothers and he enjoyed to guide the brothers’ religious community life. In 2019 he transferred his task as superior of the community, but his involvement remained.
Funeral
On Saturday the 25th of April there will be a liturgical celebration and he will be buried in the midst of his deceased fellow-brothers on the Steenwijk Estate in Vught. Unfortunately this will have to take place in private circle due to the current situation.
