Igarapé, Belo Horizonte-Minas Gerais/ 20-25 July 2020 – The corona virus pandemic surprised the world and left us shaken with losses, challenges, doubts and, for now, no answers and solutions. However, we need to have faith and hope in God that better days will come. After all, He is kind, loving and merciful to us. With this belief and following all the requirements and recommendations for the prevention of virus transmission, the brothers from the Brazil region met at the Casa de Retiro de São Vicente, Igarapé, under the guidance of Father Jonas (Franciscan) to hold the Annual Retreat.
The theme was “THE HOUSE”. Regarding to the choice of theme, the preacher said: “We are at home because of this pandemic, so I thought about reflecting with you about the place and the situation we are in.” During the reflections, we were guided to visit the various houses in the history of construction, development and changes in our faith, so we visited “The House that is God; The House in Christian Tradition; The House of the Mothers of the People of God (Matriarchs); The First House of Religious Life – the desert; The House of the Poor; The House of Pope Francis; The House of Etty Hillesum (young Jewish and victim of the concentration camp – Auschwitz) and of Charles de Foucauld; The House of Our Body; The Interior House (place of the deepest encounter with God).
The retreat was very conducive. We moved away from the “world” and “everything we do”, for a few days, to get in touch again with our inner house where God lives. At the end of the retreat, knowing that God is in us, faith and hope flourish and produce the strength and the will to continue believing and fighting, while we wait for better days.
