How it started
In 2022, a small group of CMM Brothers moved to Kawambwa (Zambia) at the invitation of the Bishop of Mansa to start a new mission. A vocational school for carpenters was started in 2023, and the first students have now completed levels two and three of TEVETA examinations.
Expansion!
Right from the start, there were plans to add other fields to the curriculum, and although not all facilities are 100 per cent in place yet, in the beginning of 2024, the brothers saw an opportunity to add three more skills: metal work, masonry, and computer skills. With these skills, they want to empower more young people hence giving them more opportunities in life. The brothers in Kawambwa can do this like no other. Their enthusiasm and commitment to train young people in this region to give them a chance of work and a better life is admirable.
Practical experience
The expansion of the mission in Zambia also requires a brotherhouse, a house where the brothers can live in community. The current community does not provide enough space for all brothers and temporary solutions are currently in place, but expansion of the existing building began in early 2024. The extension of this building also provides an opportunity for the students in the three courses to gain experience in practise as the best way to learn.
