On Sunday 17 December 2017, Mr. Henk Mutsaerts, associate member of the Brothers CMM, received the Cross of Honour Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice. The award was presented by parish priest Jeroen Miltenburg in the Peter and Paulus Church in Tilburg.
The award Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice is given to people who have been particularly committed to Church and society in a local context for at least 25 years. It is the highest sign of honour that a layman can receive from the Pope. Henk Mutsaers has been active in the Peter and Paulus Church as a volunteer at all levels for many years, and he still is today. He performs his tasks with dedication and zeal, although he is very modest about it himself.
With the award Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice comes an honorary cross in gold, hanging from a ribbon in the papal colours yellow-white. The medal has the apostles Petrus and Paul in two semicircular niches on the front, and the text PRO ECCLESIA ET PONTIFICE. The award was instituted on 17 July 1888 by Pope Leo XIII on the occasion of his 50th anniversary as a priest.
