Oyugis, Kenya – from the OIP Newsletter no. 278 (2018).
Some cluster-group members of the OIP’s agricultural-social department have started to use agriculture as a means of self-employment and income generating activity this year. This was made possible after an agricultural business training that was held in Mirondo by OIP in collaboration with ICIPE (International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology).
International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology
ICIPE ‘s mission is to help alleviate poverty, ensure food security and improve the overall health status of peoples of the tropics, by developing and extending management tools and strategies for harmful and useful arthropods, while preserving the natural resource base through research and capacity building.
Start up a business
After a bit of training and several farm visits by OIP, the cluster-group members have made agriculture their future backbone. They came to realize that agriculture can be used not only as a source of food for the family, but that it also has enormous potentials for poverty alleviation and wealth creation if taken as a business.
